Pitting the Samsung Galaxy S3 against the Samsung Galaxy S7

At first sight, the comparison between Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy S7 seems to be somewhat of a joke – after all, we’re comparing one of the current giants from the Samsung stable (even though it released a year back in March 2016) to one of Samsung’s older, albeit great phones that released way back in May 2012. This article sheds light on some known and some not-so-known differences between the two Samsung Galaxy phones.

Pitting the Samsung Galaxy S3 against the Samsung Galaxy S7

Physical description
S3 is available in two colors – white and blue – while the Galaxy S7 is available in silver, gold and black. However, the S3 (133g) is around 12% lighter than S7 (152g). However, Galaxy S7 is around 8% slimmer than S3, which makes it easier to slip the S7 in one’s pocket. The S3 doesn’t feature a Gorilla Glass display (while an S7 does), and the screen size are slightly different (S3–4.8 inches, S7–5.1 inches) with different screen-to-body ratios as well (S3–65.84%, S7–72.33%). Also, the S7 has an IP68 water and dust-resistant rugged rating (much like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung S6 Edge, etc.), while the S3 does not. Also, S7 is a dual SIM phone, unlike the S3. One area where S3 scores is that its battery is removable, which is not the case with the S7.

Software
S7 has a TouchWiz UI which runs on Android Marshmallow v6.0, while the S3 runs on Ice Cream Sandwich v4.04 and lacks a UI. S3 features a quad-core processor and a 1GB RAM, while S7 features an octa-core Snapdragon 820/ Exynos 8 Octa 8890 and runs on a powerful 4GB RAM. S3 has an internal memory of 16/32/64GB which is expandable up to 64GB, while S7 has 32/64GB internal storage and has expandable memory up to 2TB. Moreover, the S3 features an 8MP rear and 1.9MP front camera, while the S7 features a 12MP rear and a 5MP front camera. When it comes to Bluetooth technology, S3 features v4.0 while the S7 features v4.2.

Extras
One of the biggest differences where S3 scores over S7 is the fact that S3 features a radio and the S7 doesn’t. S3 features proximity and accelerometer sensors as well as NFC, whereas S7 features all the above plus fingerprint, barometer and heart-rate sensor.
